Spooky Things Are Happening in Room 12

WOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOoooo! This is the sound that most often comes out of the Spooky Haunted House in Room 12.
After working hard to build our very own haunted house, the class has had a blast becoming many different spookified creatures that live within it. Mind you, there are also helpful police officers and fire people there to keep things from getting too scary and to keep everyone safe. As AP puts it, "Ms. Bailey, I'm a police officer and I keep people safe!"

October has been a month of spooky crafting as well as creating. Thanks to our parent volunteers, we were able to make creepy Frankenstein's, egg carton witches, hand print spiders in crazy webs and thumb print spiders and pumpkins!
In addition to all of the spookiness, we have made it past the half way point of learning our letters and sounds! That in itself is something to celebrate! Many of us have also started to put these letters together (thanks mostly to the fact that we now have some vowels in our literary toolbox!) and are starting to make 2-3 letter words. This is also prompting us to write more in our journals as well as making lists of things we know about or are interested in.

In math, we have discovered the wonderful world of patterning after completing our first number sense and geometry units. So far, we've grasped the idea of repeating ABAB patterns and are now working on perfecting AABAAB and ABC patterns. We would also like to mention how proud we are of everyone for using proper math words such as corner, edge, side and angle for describing different shapes...you would almost think we are a Grade 1 class!
