Officer Wentworth and Elmer the Safety Elephant Visit Kindergarten

On Tuesday, we had the great pleasure of welcoming both Officer Wentworth and Elmer the Safety Elephant of the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Services to Kindergarten! Officer Wentworth told us all about what Elmer loves sharing with all his friends... information about how to be safe.

We learned about making sure we always have an adult with us when we are near the roads or when we are in parking lots. He even had JC come up and show us how hard it is for drivers to see kids because we are shorter than adults and can not usually be seen by cars if we are close to them.

Officer Wentworth also reminded us about wearing our seatbelts when we are in vehicles and to remember to listen for the 'click sound' to know we are buckled in properly.

Before leaving, Officer Wentworth told us how to recognize a police officer if we ever need help and about using 911 for emergencies only. Also, just as he was about ready to wrap up his program, he showed us how he uses his radio to call is dispatcher (which is someone who works back at the station and answers all of the 911 calls)! So cool!
