Over the course of the week, our Dramatic Play area has now taken on the look of a doctor's office. Complete with stethoscope, pretend medicine bottles and sick patients, a lot of great oral language development has taken place.
After having the office open for two days, we decided to bring in a few more areas that needed to be covered within this building in our community. In addition to a doctor, nurse and patient, we have now added a waiting room and receptionist and an extra patient.
We also practised modelling what normally takes place in a doctor's office. With the help of Mrs. C, who played the role of receptionist, we were able to grasp what this job entails in order to help make the office run smoothly. Once everyone understood how important this job was, more and more friends took on this role once Learning Centres began.
With Learning Centres underway, we heard some great conversations taking place amongst participants. For instance, Dr. S was questioning his patient after referring to the form filled out by the receptionist. After a few quick questions, Dr. S was able to diagnose that his patient had a bad cut on his head and a cavity that he should see the dentist about. Dr. S was also able to prescribe an "ice pack" (aka an inflatable packing air packet) to help his patient feel better.
Such a good day of learning...there might even be some future doctors, nurses and receptionists among us!
