Kinder Farm

Considering it is 'fair weekend' many of our students told us they would be visiting the local fall fair over the weekend. We thought it would be cool to kick start this annual event in our very own classroom by talking about fairs and what we see at them. The majority of us said rides and animals, which lead to a discussion on where animals live.

Our John Deere Tractor.
With that in mind, we quickly made the connection to farms and wondered what a farm would look like in our dramatic play area. Well! Did this ever spark some imaginations! We quickly shared our ideas, thought of materials we needed to collect and then got things underway the next day.

After a quick trip to the grocery store on the way home that night, Mrs. C returned the next day with some cardboard boxes for the class to use to bring their ideas to life. For those not as interested in the 'construction zone' that quickly appeared on the carpet once Learning Centres began, regular areas of learning were open for business as usual while the 'workers' (this is what they referred to themselves as!) got busy making bales of hay, a John Deere tractor and yes...an actual cow courtesy of a cow print box from the Milk program that just so happened to be noticed by Ms. B in the office.

Two days later and with lots of hard work, the 'workers' were finally finished their masterpiece and declared the Kinder Farm open to anyone who wanted to experience life on the farm...from their point of view. The level of excitement that followed was inspiring and the entire ordeal created a lot of buzz once word started to spread about what was going on in Room 12. We had many guests (parents, other teachers, Mrs. V our secretary and our principal Mrs. J) drop by to check out our creation along with many accolades about the final product. Way to go 'workers'!
